Scholarship Coverage
- David Johnston–Lebovic Foundation International Experience Awards:
- Up to $2,500 for a one-term study experience
- A grant ranging from $2,500 to $5,000 for a one-term work or volunteer opportunity
- A grant of up to $10,000 for a two-term work or volunteer opportunity
- International Master’s Award of Excellence:
- Valued at $2,500 per term, up to a maximum of 6 terms.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must fulfill the following criteria to be eligible for the University of Waterloo Scholarships:
- Required Language: English
- Eligible Countries: All countries worldwide
- Academic Standing: Applicants must have a good academic record, typically a minimum of 70% average at the undergraduate level and 75% at the graduate level
- Enrollment: Applicants must be full-time undergraduate or graduate students in any faculty, intending to participate in an international experience in Israel, including minimally-paid or volunteer international co-op work placements, volunteer placements, academic exchanges, or study terms related to academic requirements
- International Students: Must have a valid Canadian study permit, be registered full-time, and pay international tuition fees
- Program Type: Primarily awarded to students in research-based programs (thesis or major research paper)
- First-Term Students: Normally awarded to students entering the first term of their program (term 1.0)
- Academic Excellence: Applicants must demonstrate academic excellence as defined by their Faculty
- Program Progress: Students must meet the academic progress requirements of their program and not have any outstanding probationary admission requirements
- Other Scholarships: This award can be in addition to other internal or external scholarships (e.g., UW Graduate Scholarship, OGS)
- Sponsorship Restrictions: Students should not be concurrently receiving foreign government or agency sponsorship or be fully or partially self-funded beyond the Faculty’s minimum support levels
- Previous IMSA Recipients: Students previously awarded an IMSA for a completed master’s degree may be nominated for this award, but those grandfathered under the existing IMSA program cannot be nominated
- Automatic Consideration: Students are automatically considered for this award based on their application for admission. Departments and Faculties will define their selection process based on eligibility criteria and allocation
- Stricter Faculty Criteria: Faculties may impose additional eligibility requirements as necessary.
How to Apply?
- Candidates must first gain admission to an undergraduate or graduate degree program at the university. Once admitted, they can access the scholarship application on their forms page.
- A personal statement must be included with the application, referencing the application form.
- All applicants must provide proof of their English language proficiency to meet the minimum admission requirements.
Instructions for Applying to the International Master’s Award of Excellence Scholarship:
- Students will be automatically considered for the scholarship upon submitting their admission application, so no separate scholarship application is needed.
- Departments and/or Faculties will select and nominate students for the scholarship.
