- Monthly Stipend: 144,000 JPY for living expenses (subject to change).
- Travel Support: Economy-class airfare between the recipient’s home country and APU at the start and completion of the program.
- Accommodation Requirement: Incoming international students must reside at AP House (APU’s dormitory) during their first year (not covered by the scholarship).
Eligibility Criteria for MEXT University Recommendation Scholarship
- Language Requirement: Proficiency in English or Japanese.
- Eligible Nationalities: Open to applicants from all countries worldwide.
- Study Abroad Requirement: Must intend to study in Japan from overseas.
- Nationality: Must not hold Japanese nationality and must be a citizen of a country with diplomatic relations with Japan.
- Age Requirement: Must be born on or after April 2, 1990.
- Academic Requirement: Minimum GPA of 2.30 on a 3.00 scale from the most recent university attended.
- Military Service Restriction: Active military personnel and civilians employed by the military are not eligible.
- Arrival in Japan: Must be able to arrive in Japan within the arrival period specified by APU.
- Previous MEXT Scholarship Recipients: Cannot have received a MEXT scholarship before, unless they have completed at least 3 years of education/research experience since their last MEXT award.
- Other MEXT Scholarship Applications: Cannot apply for another MEXT scholarship simultaneously.
- Additional Scholarship Restrictions: Cannot receive funding from another scholarship organization while studying at APU.
- Visa Requirement: Must hold a student visa (residence status) in Japan.
